Pater Familis

Yesterday was my first Father's Day.  It started out with sleeping in until 7:30 (about 2 hours later than I usually awaken), followed by a wonderful breakfast fixed by the E-i-C: lox, creme fraiche, red onion and capers on genuine German-style pumpernickel; tamago; and yogurt with fresh fruit.  Along with the breakfast was a veritable shower of gifts, which I will refrain from listing, except to mention that they included the 4th edition D&D core rulebooks.

In the midmorning we drove up to San Rafael to go to the Marin farmer's market at the Civic Center, which is really a lot more pleasant than the SF Ferry Building market on Saturdays.  There are a couple of vendors whom I miss, though: the dry-farmed potato man (who actually comes to the SR market, but doesn't sell potatoes there); Cap'n Mike's salmon sandwich booth (again, Cap'n Mike sells his wares at SR, but there is no sandwich booth); and we're going to have to go to the Ferry Building later this summer to get myoga from Happy Quail Farms.  Despite these absences, it's really quite a large market, and the parking and crowds are still better than at the Ferry Building.

We were able to move pretty quickly through the market to get what we wanted, and finished up around 1:15 pm.  After a brief pause to feed the Spawn, we sped off to the Fairfax Festival.  Parking here was a little more tricky, but we took an opportunity to visit an open house for a beeyootiful $1.2M craftsman home.  Do you think they'd accept a 1% down?

We met up with the Choppers for breakfast at Koffee Klatch and then away to the Redwood Stage to catch Chopper's friend Steve playing with the Fairfax String Ensemble.  To be truthful, we didn't see much of the rest of the Festival.  Before we even left the house I was coming down with a headache, and by the afternoon it was nearly intolerable.  We were all three of us exhausted and sunstruck, and it was a bit of a relief to return to the foggy Sunset.

Most of the remainder of the day was spend cooking, first for the Spawn (steaming and grinding veggies from the market) and then for the E-i-C and I (tacos!).  I think I logged on to WoW for about 15 minutes before deciding I'd rather do something productive like sleep.

Yeah, fatherhood.

Don't forget, we also laundered Po's laundry.
