Oculi Rosei

The Spawn has a case of bacterial conjunctivitis. That's the sort of pink eye that is accompanied by great globs of yellow goo dripping from eyelashes. Highly contagious, so she's not permitted to go to day care until it's cured. Which it mostly is now, since we went to the doctor on Friday and she's been getting antibiotic eyedrops since then.

Now, normally I'd welcome a 4-day weekend, but when you're stuck at home because the baby is a carrier of infectious disease, not to mention she's oozing from the eyes and nose and is SICK AND TIRED OF HAVING HER FACE WIPED, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, by the fourth day you start to get a little bit of cabin fever. If the Spawn was not so demanding of my attention (and I mean that in the most literal way), I might have gotten some things done - chores around the house, writing, reading. As it is I managed to read through the state voter information pamphlet for this election's initiatives.

Yesterday the E-i-C and I put our friends at risk by asking them to spawnsit while we traipsed off to the Neil Gaiman reading of The Graveyard Book. It was neat! The E-i-C seemed very inspired, not only by the Q&A session in which he answered a few questions about his writing process, but also by the leaflet for fieldreport.com that was handed to her while we waiting in line.

I took a 90+ minute nap today while the Spawn did likewise; it was much needed, but left me feeling a bit squishy. Napping always does; I'm not right in the head for the remainder of the day. At the moment the Spawn is down for her second nap, which is itself uncommon these days, and even more so considering that she napped for more than 2 hours, and woke up only about 4 hours ago. She must be feeling under the weather; and I guess she didn't sleep well last night. Now that I have the potential for a few minutes of focus, I'm not sure what to focus on...

But blogging isn't really what I want to spend this precious time on.
