According to an AP article published on HonoluluAdvertiser.com, "Fifth-ranked maegashira Dejima defeated No. 10 maegashira Aran of Russia while Miyabiyama, a seventh-ranked maegashira, overpowered No. 12 Kasuganishiki."
Kasuganishiki pulled out of the tournament with an injury, so Miyabayama won the match by default. I'm not sure I'd call that "overpowered." Nice reporting, AP. Miyabiyama is undefeated so far (a third of the way into the tournament), with some canny sumo and impressive footwork for such a big guy. Which, you know, doesn't do you any good (nor any bad) when you're winning by default.
If today wasn't officially a full moon, it was close enough so's to make no difference. The schizophrenic homeless people were out in force. I passed a fellow at Market & Van Ness talking (to no one in particular) about how there had been "a sewage pipe attached to my iris, my retina."
And I got to leave work at eleven to go pick up the Spawn from day care. She's come down with a cold (though it's hard to tell, because she's had one after the other, with no actually healthy periods, since October began) and the virus is giving her a rash as well. So the day care people were all freaked out and afraid it might be chicken pox or something. Admittedly, it's a pretty impressive rash, and we did go visit the doctor to make sure.
The E-i-C and I have been trying to figure out what to do for a Christmas vacation. Airline prices are so ridiculously expensive that even going to Portland for a couple of days is hardly worth it - forget about Japan at about $2K per seat. We're having trouble finding someplace we can agree on here in the Bay Area, or even anywhere within driving distance. Time is getting short! Any suggestions?
